A former PDP House of Assembly and Chairmanship Candidate in Ijebu Ode state constituency and local government area, Hon. Rotimi Okenla has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The PDP starwart in a letter dated 5th May, 2026 and addressed to the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Engr. Abayomi Tella, explained that his decision to leave the party is due to the persistent challenges within the party, particularly issues of injustice, lack of transparency, perceived ingratitude, disloyalty, and mismanagement of resources. This, he said have made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his membership.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.
“This decision follows deep reflection and careful consideration of my personal values and political convictions. Having contested elections under the platform of the party as its Honourable candidate in 2019, and as the party’s chairmanship candidate at the local government level in 2021, I have remained committed, loyal, and dedicated to its ideals and growth.
“However, persistent challenges within the party—particularly issues of injustice, lack of transparency, perceived ingratitude, disloyalty, and mismanagement of resources—have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership.
“It is especially disheartening to observe that some individuals who have benefitted from the party’s support now act in ways that undermine its unity and progress, often defecting to other parties for personal gain. These developments have compelled me to take this difficult decision.
“Nevertheless, I hold no ill will toward the party and remain appreciative of the platform it provided me to serve and contribute meaningfully.
“Accordingly, I hereby resign my membership of the party at all levels—from the state to the ward level. I kindly request that my resignation be duly acknowledged and that all necessary updates be made to your records.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunities given to me during my time in the party and wish the Peoples Democratic Party success in its future endeavors”. He wrote.
