The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, will on Saturday install Dr Sonny Kuku as the new Ogbeni Oja of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
According to a statement signed by the chairman of the installation planning committee, Fassy Yusuf, and the Chairman of Finance, Alex Onabanjo, the Ogbeni Oja title would be conferred on Kuku at the Oba S. K. Adetona Royal Pavilion, Ijebu-Ode, by 10 am.
Kuku, who is the Chairman of Eko Hospitals Plc, holds the national honour of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic.
He is the the current Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Benin, and a former President of the University of Lagos Alumni Association.
“The Ogbeni Oja acts for the Awujale during interregna and holds the title at the pleasure of the Awujale,” the statement read in part.
It was added that late Timothy Odutola, and the late Bayo Kuku were the holders of the title in succession, according to recent history.
The title became vacant in 2015 following the demise of Bayo Kuku, making Sonny Kuku the third holder of the title.
The PUNCH reported that Kuku was selected by the Awujale in December to occupy the coveted post.
At the time, Kuku told The PUNCH that, “I am highly humbled for being selected by our highly revered Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona.”
