Seven Die, Two Injured In Multiple Crash On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal multiple road traffic crash that occurred at about 0003hrs on Monday, 24 August 2026, along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo.

Preliminary information indicates that nine (9) persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven (7) persons were killed, while two (2) persons sustained injuries.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.

The FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command received the report at about 00:04hrs and arrived at the scene at 00:09hrs, representing a response time of approximately five minutes.
The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation (SPV) identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.

The deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken away for medical attention. The crashed vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further necessary action.

The Sector Commander Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi therefore urges motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant at all times. Motorists are also advised to exercise extra caution when driving at night, as reduced visibility and fatigue can increase the risk of road traffic crashes.
The Corps commiserates with the families of the deceased and wishes the injured victims a speedy recovery.
