Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, YAYI CON FCA representing Ogun West Senatorial District and thegubernatorial candidate of the APC in Ogun State for the 2027 elections, on Thursday facilitated the empowerment of 3,000 market women and men in Ogun East Senatorial District with a cash grant of N75,000 each.
The empowerment programme, which is the fifth edition, was held in Ijebu-Ode. It came a day after a similar exercise was held in Abeokuta for traders in Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, said the initiative, which began before his election, had previously empowered 5,000 market women with N25,000 on two occasions before the grant was increased to N50,000 and subsequently to N75,000.
According to him, the grant is aimed at supporting micro and small-scale businesses and is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the Oko Owo Dapo initiative of Governor Dapo Abiodun for market women in the state.
He said, “Today, as I did yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun Central Senatorial District, I fulfilled yet again my promise to the people as I facilitated the empowerment of 3,000 market women and men with a grant of N75,000 each at Ijebu Ode for Ogun East Senatorial District. I started before my election with empowerment of 5,000 market women with N25,000 on two occasions. Subsequent editions increased the grant to N50,000 and N75,000 respectively.”
The event was attended by former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga; Secretary to the State Government, Pastor Tokunbo Talabi; former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni Shodunke and Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun.
Others in attendance were the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Alhaja Yemisi Abass; Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan; Chief Adebisi Olaotan, Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President and convener of the West2State Women Wing; Hon. Taiwo Oludotun and other serving and former government officials.
