The National Youth Service Corps has urged prospective female corps members to refrain from applying henna on their fingers before reporting to orientation camps.
In a notice shared on its verified X account on Friday, the NYSC explained that henna designs can interfere with the biometric fingerprint registration process, which is a mandatory part of camp documentation.
“Female prospective corps members are advised to avoid applying henna on their fingers before going to camp, as it will affect their biometric fingerprint capture during registration,” the statement read.
According to the NYSC, failure to obtain clear fingerprints due to henna can lead to significant delays during registration.
In severe cases, affected corps members may be unable to complete the process, thereby stalling their clearance and onward movement from the camp.
The scheme emphasised the importance of preparation, advising all prospective members particularly females to keep their fingers clean and clear at all times to ensure a smooth registration exercise.
The advisory read: “Do not apply henna (mehndi) on your fingers before travelling to camp. Ensure your fingerprints are clean and clear at all times.
“Your smooth registration depends on clear fingerprints. Avoid henna, avoid delay.”
This advisory comes as thousands of Nigerian graduates prepare to participate in the mandatory one-year national service.
Biometric registration remains a critical component of the NYSC orientation camp process, used for identity verification and documentation.
