2027: Lagos APC Promises Aspirants Free, Fair Governorship Primary

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has assured aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket of a transparent, fair and credible primary election ahead of the 2027 polls.

The assurance was given on Thursday during a meeting between party leaders and frontline governorship aspirant, Samuel Ajose.

Speaking after the meeting, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said all aspirants would be granted equal opportunities during the May 21 governorship primary.

He spoke alongside the party’s South-West Organising Secretary, Lateef Ibirogba.

According to Ojelabi, the party would strictly adhere to laid-down procedures and provisions of the Electoral Act in conducting the exercise.

“He is not new to the party. This is a family visit. He came to formally declare his intention and share his vision for Lagos State,” Ojelabi said.

“We assured him that the party would adopt consensus or direct primaries, as directed nationally. Every aspirant will enjoy equal opportunity in a transparent and credible process.”

The Lagos APC chairman further stated that the party remained committed to internal democracy and orderly political engagement.

He noted that consultations by aspirants across local government areas reflected the strength and inclusiveness of the party’s internal processes.

“Our aspirants consult members across local governments before the primary, and that reflects our strength. The field remains open, and Nigerians will soon witness a transparent internal contest,” he added.

In his remarks, Ajose dismissed reports suggesting he had withdrawn from the race, insisting that he remained fully committed to contesting the election.

“By God’s grace, I will contest this election. We sought assurances, and the chairman received us warmly beyond expectation,” he said.

“The leadership assured us the process will be free, fair and credible.”

Ajose also pledged to accept the outcome of the primary, stressing that party supremacy must be respected by all members.

“Whatever the party decides, we will abide by it,” he stated, while adding that members of the SMA movement would mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.

“In 2027, we aim to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos,” he added.
