SMEs, Bedrock of A Sustainable Economy -Ogun Commissioner

Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been described as the bedrock of a sustainable economy, hence the need for young entrepreneurs to enhance their capacities with business knowledge and empower themselves with economically-viable skills.

Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, stated this in Abeokuta during a courtesy call by young entrepreneurs, who were on advocacy visit to solicit support towards the successful hosting of “Ogun Young Entrepreneurs Summit (Ogun YES)”, scheduled to hold in the state capital in April.

Mr. Olabimtan commended the young entrepreneurs for their foresight and decision to deepen the economy by organising a Summit, urging them to ensure that the objective of the programme was achieved with concrete outcomes that would have impact on participants, the state and nation’s economy.

He further advised them to engage government agencies, saddled with youth empowerment such as, Bureau of Job Creation, Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, as well as others, so as to add value to their businesses.

“Ogun Young Entrepreneurs Summit is a good initiative that must be supported by all. Entrepreneurship is a key driver of our economic growth and development as a nation because it creates new businesses and jobs that lead to an increase in gross national product and per capita income. I urge you not to organise the proposed summit for summit sake, but should ensure how businesses would thrive seamlessly in this harsh economic period”, he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Convener of Ogun YES, Yusuf Solomon, said the Summit would be the 3rd edition and targeted at opening new markets and providing job opportunities for the teeming youths across the state.
