Bandits on Thursday attacked traders in Adafka, Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing one person and abducting at least 20 others.
The attack occurred when armed men blocked the road and intercepted traders travelling from Adafka village to the Gurusu market, while others were heading towards Gusau, the state capital.
A resident of Adafka village, Malam Aminu Shehu, said the assailants suddenly blocked the road, opened fire and seized several commuters.
“They only came to help us carry the dead body for burial. They have not told us anything about the fate of those abducted,” he added.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
