‘Don’t Refer To Me As Awujale’, Omooba Bimbo Onabanjo Appeals To Well-Wishers

I, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo of the Fusengbuwa Royal House, sincerely appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of goodwill, prayers, and expressions of support received from friends, associates, and well-wishers across various platforms in recent days. I feel the love deeply and remain profoundly grateful for it all.

I am truly honoured by the confidence and affection shown to me, and I accept it with humility. However, I respectfully emphasise that the selection of an Awujale of Ijebuland is a sacred, solemn, and time-honoured process, governed strictly by established customs and tradition. As the saying goes, “Ilúfẹ́mi lóyè” — it is the town that bestows the crown. I acknowledge the goodwill of my people, yet it is precisely out of respect for this tradition that I must speak clearly.

In the interest of preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of Ijebu tradition, I, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo, humbly appeal to supporters, well-wishers, and members of the public to kindly refrain from referring to me as the Awujale, or from circulating materials that suggest that any conclusion has already been reached.

I remain firmly committed to upholding the values, unity, and rich heritage of Ijebuland, and I respectfully urge all concerned to allow the rightful and recognised processes to take their proper course.
