Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), has confirmed eight out of 19 the registered political parties in the state that would participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled in November 16, 2024.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu stated this in Abeokuta, during a media parley with the press tagged, ‘’Media Parliament’’, noting that no candidate was disqualified from the just concluded screening exercise by the Commission.
The OGSIEC boss stated that the agency was collaborating and engaging with newsmen for media visibility through the use of various platforms, particularly in rural communities, adding that,’’ as the fourth estate of the realm, the media serves as a beacon of hope to the people and a watch dog to both the executive and legislative arms of government’’.
While reiterating its commitment to operating an open-door policy where candidates or political parties could always lodge their concerns, he assured newsmen of adequate media logistics, to ensure elections activities were well covered in the nooks and crannies of the state.
The electoral umpires stated that collation of adhoc staff for the exercise was on going, as applicants would be duly informed on the next line of action, saying the recruitment would be done with utmost transparency.
