Gateway Games 2024: Torch of Unity For National Sports Festival Lit At Presidential Villa (Photos)

The official Torch of Unity for the 22nd National Sports Festival was ceremonially lit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key stakeholders in Nigeria’s sports sector.

The Hon. Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka joined other dignitaries for the historic event, marking the beginning of preparations for the festival, which Ogun State will proudly host from May 16th to 30th, 2025.

Present at the event are Delta State, the host of the 21st edition who came to handover the torch and Enugu State who is hosting the 23rd edition after Ogun state, emphasizing the continuity and unity fostered by the festival.

The torch, a symbol of national unity and sportsmanship, will travel across all states of the federation before arriving in Ogun State for the grand event by April or May 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, reaffirmed the state’s full readiness to deliver an exceptional festival, promising world-class facilities and a warm reception for athletes, officials, and visitors.

The Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State expressed his pride in being part of the sports community present at the event, highlighting Ogun State’s commitment to host a festival that will not only showcase athletic excellence but also promote national unity.

“As the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, I am truly honoured to have been part of the sports family present at the Presidential Villa for the ceremonial lighting of the torch for the 22nd National Sports Festival. It was a memorable moment presided over by our esteemed President and Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our dedicated host governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Governor Abiodun and the wonderful people of Ogun State for their unwavering support. Together, we are dedicated to working closely with the National Sports Commission to ensure an unforgettable festival experience for all participants and attendees”.
