The Ogun State Government has reassured its unwavering commitment in empowering farmers for sustainable agriculture, strengthening the sector and boosting food sufficiency in the state.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, gave the assurance while featuring on a radio programme in Abeokuta, saying the empowerment would enhance their productivity, improve livelihood and ensure food security.
The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye, explained that government was committed to the well-being of farmers through numerous interventions such as distribution of inputs and assets among others to better their agriculture businesses, adding that intervention programmes was necessary in reducing cost of production and enhancing food sufficiency.
Owotomo pointed out that, farmers should embrace cluster initiative of the government to further drive the economic growth of the state, by encouraging them to get registered for easy access to various intervention of government which he said was crucial in ensuring proper monitoring of farmers through their database to manage farmers’ information and maintain best practices.
